I can totally understand why the transition has been tough for you. There is a tension in the US that you might have thought you were aware of, but just getting bits and pieces of the news while you were away could not have prepared you for the reality. Years from now (hopefully only a few years), people will look back and see what a dark and difficult time it was in our history. It's harder for you because you're coming off of two years of encounters with simple, loving, peaceful cultures. But it's cool that your kids don't let it get them down, and instead feel confident about traveling, meeting people who are different than they are, and putting their experiences into action. They'll be the ones to change the world for the better! In the meantime, cry if you feel like it, and drink if it helps!
